Face First

CommentMay 15, 2009

Before my Chemo I agreed to be a part of my friend Carl Cartee’s worship conference here in Nashville. I told him that I really wanted to do it but wasn’t sure how I be feeling. Thankfully, by the first day of the conference (Wednesday) I was feeling well enough to play. I was scheduled to perform at a late night event with a couple of other writers and told Carl that I would try to take a long afternoon nap and be there in the evening to set up. Jennifer had an appointment that day so I stayed home with Sadie-Claire, planning to feed her lunch and go to bed when she went down for a nap. But just before lunch Sadie-Claire drove he little plastic Winnie-the-Pooh car out the back door while I wasn’t looking. She crashed down the step onto the sunporch and, on the way down, must have opened her mouth. Instead of catching herself with her hands she hit the tile teeth first, breaking off two or three of her top teeth and impacting them up and back into her gums. She always seems to break her falls with her face. She’ll be lucky to even have a face left by the time she starts school!

Sadie-Claire is a tough little girl. Just before her first birthday she broke her arm and had it in a cast for three weeks. She couldn’t crawl so she just decided to walk. The picture above is from that month. I’m hoping not to have too many more pics like this but I have a feeling I might. I don’t have a pic of the teeth yet. Hopefully soon. We’re feeding here lots of soft food, sometimes out of a dropper if she is in a lot of pain. Dentist says she may loose those teeth. I hope not. For now she’s my saw-toothed princess.
